Brenda Walters - OPERATIONS MANAGER
An adventurer at heart, Brenda moved from her home town Durban to Smitswinkel Bay (Cape Point) in 2004. Sharing this space with baboons, otters and a ‘tame’ genet cat, she and her partner lived on solar power and spring water out of the mountain for a year. She became fit walking the 1,5km trail to her car a few times a week for supplies.
A year later, they left this paradise and spent three months on the road touring Southern and East Africa visiting the Serengeti and going as far as Rwanda and Uganda with the privilege of seeing the gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Park. She wrote a series of travel articles on her return to Cape Town followed up with health and psychological pieces to mainstream magazines, which began her sideline career as a freelance journalist.
The opportunity to work to leave the corporate world and work in conservation led to her moving to Gansbaai in 2009 for the Dyer Island Conservation Trust. Brenda is involved with administration, communication, projects, marketing and fundraising for the Trust.

Michelle Privett - WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR

Over the hill from the Island and Trust office is where you will find Michelle looking after her two small children and menagerie of animals, while attempting to live sustainably on Witkrans Farm. In her previous life, Michelle was involved in Project Management in the I.T industry and now has a small business specialising with NGO's and website marketing. This helps to fund some of the crazy farming activities on Witkrans, including the conservation of 30 hectares of endangered Overberg moutain fynbos vegetation.
