WHALE STRANDING AT ROMANSBAAI

<< BACK

A false killer whale was found deceased on Monday 1 June 2009 stranded at a beach in Romansbaai in the Western Cape.  The Dyer Island Conservation Trust was alerted of the stranding and arrived at the scene to photograph the animal and to take vital measurements and samples to be analysed by researchers at the Mammal Research Institute (University of Pretoria/Iziko Museums of Cape Town).  The reason for the stranding is unknown and we hope to learn more from the scientific findings once the samples have been analysed.
