DICT was incredibly grateful to the TICE committee for nominating the Trust as one of three beneficiaries at their annual charity event. The evening was a black tie affair at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the tourism industry was out in force.
The other charities nominated included WARMTH – War against Malnutrition, Tuberculosis and Hunger and The Tourism Education trust . We all had an opportunity to present and DICT showed an audiovisual on the work we are involved with that affects the Marine Big 5 in the area – penguins, whales, sharks, dolphins and seals.
The target for the evening was R300 000 and the incredible generosity of the tourism industry saw this target being exceeded. Each organisation will benefit by an incredible R110 000. DICT believes that it is through knowledge of our marine animals that we can protect them and it is for this reason that we are shortly launching a white shark research project of tagging and manually tracking the great white in the shallows of Gansbaai. This donation is sure to help us support this and other projects that DICT is involved in.
