INTERACTIVE PRESENTATIONS IN HONOUR OF WORLD OCEANS DAY

<< BACK

In honour of World Oceans Day on Tuesday 8th June 2010, we will hold interactive presentations at Gansbaai Junior Primary School. The theme this year is ‘Oceans of Life’.The goal is to educate the youth on the valuable part in the ecosystem that the ocean plays and to focus on the unique area that exists here at the southernmost tip of Africa.

The two currents that meet here, the cold Benguela and the warm Agulhas create a rich upwelling that provides a nutrient rich feeding ground. Here you will find the Marine Big 5™ - the Southern Right Whale; the Great White Shark; the Endangered African Penguin; the Cape Fur Seal and Dolphins. We will teach the children how an ocean food web works and how they can make a difference in preserving our oceans.

They will be encouraged to make a personal commitment to do so.  We will continue this theme during our National Marine Week 11-15 October 2010 and broaden the reach to our other local schools in the area.
