RIP ADIN STAMELMAN

 Adin Stamelman (25 November 1976 - 7 June 2010)
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Adin Stamelman.
Adin was a Ph.D. candidate, registered with the Department of Historical Studies at UCT. He was working on a project that re-constructs population numbers of particular sea-bird species found on the guano islands of Southern Africa and was un-tapping a wealth of data from government archives. The Trust supported the project financially and was very excited to work with Adin on the history of Dyer Island.
Adin graduated from the Department of Environmental and Geographical Studies at UCT. His Honours research focused on conservation and land use changes (specifically, platinum mining) in the North West Province, South Africa. For his Masters, his curious and adventurous spirit took him to Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo where he provided an historical narrative of conservation initiatives in areas of violent conflict.
Adin leaves a real gap at the University and will be deeply missed by his colleagues. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. |
